Vagabiking is vagabonding by motorcycle.
Vagabiking is about distant places and the roads that lead to them, an appealing tension between the lure of the destination and the thrill of the journey.
Vagabiking is about the dream of travel by motorcycle, and making that dream a reality. Being a vagabiker means orienting your life as much as possible to support that dream. Its not important whether your big adventure lasts for two days, two weeks or two years. What’s important is making it real.
Vagabiking demands Sacrifice. Ask anyone who has traveled for years around the world by motorcycle and they will tell you what they had to give up in order to do it - work, family, relationships…
Ask them if it was worth it and they will undoubtedly say it was one of the best choices they ever made. In life, one can do anything, but not everything, so vagabiking is about the sacrifices that must be made in order to make the dream possible
Vagabiking demands resourcefulness. It involves all of the normal challenges of independent travel, with the additional challenges of motorcycling –finding the right machine, keeping it running, riding in hazardous conditions, and surviving life on the road. It means learning how to live with, and adapt to the challenges of long distance motorcycle adventuring.
Vagabiking demands Time and Money, but will accept whatever you can afford. Resourcefulness can often be a substitute for money, and time itself is free, if one chooses to use it wisely.
Vagabiking is about exploration. It’s about moving across borders in the physical world and the world within. Riding a motorcycle offers a unique way of experiencing distant lands and foreign cultures, and the experiences gained are full of opportunities for learning about oneself and the world.
Vagabiking is adventurous, but never in a reckless fashion. There is room for speed, but it’s not all about speed. Sometimes we have to simply slow down and enjoy the world that rushes by. If we travel too fast we tend to miss the beautiful things right next to us.
Vagabiking encourages an awareness of social realities. Not everyone on the planet has equal access to the political and economic freedoms that a life of long distance vagabiking demands. Encountering people in different cultural, political and economic situations is often an eye-opening experience for all parties.
Vagabiking is often a solo affair. Its difficult to find riding partners that can coexist together for years on the road. Different personalities, agendas, abilities, schedules and motivations preclude extended journeys together.A sense of loneliness and isolation often accompanies the greatest vagabiking adventures.
Vagabiking is a blessing. Anyone who can afford to travel around the world by motorcycle is a fortunate person and would do well to set a good example for other people to remember.
